4 brutal reasons your Meta ads are burning money

Ads are amplifiers, not miracle workers. If the offer and the page are weak, paid traffic simply reveals it faster and more expensively.

1. Your offer isn't an offer

'Check out our product' is not an offer. An offer is a specific outcome, a price, a reason to act now and a reduction of risk. Fix this before you touch targeting.

2. You're selling to strangers at the wrong temperature

  • Cold audiences: sell the free asset or the problem-aware content, not the $200 package.
  • Warm audiences (video viewers, page engagers, site visitors): sell the low-ticket entry offer.
  • Hot audiences (add-to-cart, email subscribers): sell the flagship and use urgency.

3. Your creative looks like an ad

Native, unpolished, first-person video beats studio production on Meta almost every time. Show the product working, in a real environment, in the first two seconds — then say the benefit out loud.

4. You're judging too early on the wrong metric

CTR and CPM are diagnostics, not goals. Track cost per purchase and cost per lead, give each test enough budget to reach statistical meaning, and change one variable at a time.

Frequently asked questions

How much should I spend to test a Meta ad?

Budget enough per ad set to generate roughly 50 optimisation events before judging it — for many small businesses that means testing one offer at a time rather than five.

Why did my ads work and then suddenly stop?

Usually creative fatigue within a saturated audience. Refresh the creative and hook before assuming the algorithm changed.
